about

I wrote this song in late 2019 when I had the sole purpose of writing and producing a dance track because I’d never done that before. After getting some feedback in a couple of my classes at Berklee, I decided to let it sit in the thought freezer for about a year before getting in touch with Chris Giddings to help complete production and also mix/master the track (he’s amazing). I wrote the song from a fictional character’s perspective, let’s name him Gregg. Gregg’s a Singer/songwriter behind the hit single “You Get What You Give”. It’s about how Gregg has now faded from people’s memories when he believes he deserves to be remembered because, in his head, he’s more than a one-hit-wonder and has the gold to show for it. So what gives? Well quite frankly, possibly a lack of humility and truckloads of insecurity. You see - there’s so many of him nowadays, doing things even better than him so how is he to stand out? Here’s Gregg asking you to give him a chance. Actually, Gregg’s written a song bluntly asking the audience to give him that validation, some communication, and a social media mention (I’ll take the mention gladly myself thank you) to help release his tension.
Huge thank you to Pooja Mahesh for the cover art and for helping with all the promo related material. Special thanks to Ridhi Sharma as always, for pushing me to start this journey.

lyrics

[Verse 1]
Those glory days
All that praise
I was more than a one-hit-wonder
Don't you get what you give
Have I not been so humble

[Pre-chorus]
Cause now I am all alone
I'm lost but will you remember
Me when I'm no longer here
Set me free
From my own enemy

[Chorus]
Give me that validation
Just some communication
Or media attention
I need that validation
It isn't superstition
Help me release my tension
A social media mention
I need that validation

[Verse 2]
Oh all the stars
At my feet
I was right where I wanted to be
Now I'm not
There's 12 of me
Was I never that special

[Pre-chorus]
Cause how am I all alone
Was the gold for show
Remember me when I'm no longer here
Can't you see
I'm my own enemy

[Chorus]
Give me that validation
Just some communication
Or media attention
I need that validation
It isn't superstition
Help me release my tension
A social media mention
I need that validation

[Bridge]
You don't love me when I'm no longer the talk of this old town
I thought I'm fine
But I'm losing my mind

[Chorus]
Give me that validation
Just some communication
Or media attention
I need that validation
It isn't superstition
Help me release my tension
A social media mention
I need that validation

[Chorus]
Give me that validation
Just some communication
Or media attention
I need that validation
It isn't superstition
Help me release my tension
A social media mention
I need that validation

[Outro]
Give me that validation
Just some communication
Or media attention
I need that validation
It isn't superstition
Help me release my tension
A social media mention
I need that validation
