I started writing this song after moving to the US in 2018. The first year was the hardest when I was around so many people who sounded and looked different than me. I kept trying to fit in and struggled to make meaningful connections barring a few people. All those feelings I felt brought out about this song which was originally called "I Wonder What It's Like To Have Friends" (free fact for you). But that original version was extremely sad and didn't give me the feeling I wished it would. Over the past few years, I've been lucky to grow an amazing circle of friends who've reminded me that I should always stay true to myself and be free. And yes, the song is titled "I Wanna Have Friends" but the song's about more than that. It's about embracing who you are, and reminding yourself you're beautiful just the way you are (as long as you aren't being a dick of course). Phew hope you enjoyed this long spiel.
